Kazakhstan, a Central Asian country and former Soviet republic, extends from the Caspian Sea in the west to the Altai Mountains at its eastern border with China and Russia. Kazakhstan is a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Economic Cooperation Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The nations of Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan established the Eurasian Economic Community in 2000. Kazakhstan launched the Green Economy Plan in 2013. It committed Kazakhstan to meet 50% of its energy needs from alternative and renewable sources by 2050.
Kazakhstan experiences an extreme continental climate, with long, hot summers and cold winters. Kazakhstan is situated in a mountainous area which has an influence on the climate in this country. Kazakhstan has a humid continental climate with more rainfall. Especially in spring and early summer months there is a lot more rain. Summers are pleasant and make it a perfect time to visit. Most precipitation will be snow in winter.
